Saving Private Ryan - Pvt. Jackson

There’s something about the following video that just strikes a chord with me. Below is a compilation of all snipe scenes from Saving Private Ryan as executed by Private Jackson. I have to admit - and I’m no war movie fan - that this is an old, yet truly astounding film:

Note: This video contains violence.

Although I’m not religious at heart at all, I do really enjoy the devout quotes from the scene. Here’s a narration of all the quotes:

00:39 - “Be not far from me, O Lord.”

(Psalm 22:11)

00:45 - “O my strength, haste thee to help me.”

(Psalm 22:19)

00:53 - “O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.”

(Psalm 25:2)

01:53 - “Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.”

(Psalm 144:1)

02:06 - “My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.”

(Psalm 144:2)

It’s particularly amazing to watch how these simple biblical references guides Private Jackson in doing what he needs to do, while on the backdrop of war. You can see how enveloped he is when concentrating on a target and the Bible quotations serves as an addition to the unflinching demeanour of Pvt. Jackson.

It’s good to see when he refers to God as his “.. fortress; [his] high tower” and also, his ability to “.. subdueth [the] people under [him]“, when ironically, Jackson is actually standing concealed in the room of a high tower, shooting those approaching the tower from below. Quoting, at its perfection!

By far, I reckon he is the coolest character in the movie - despite there not being much emphasis on him in the film.
